Performance and Caching with Drupal

Session Description

How to effectively use Performance and Caching modules to make your Drupal site fast.

This session will start at the basic options for tuning your site and move all the way up to hard core Drupal Ninja style performance tuning. This will also cover the basics of tuning your server and database. This is a large topic in the Drupal community and one that people have spent an entire day talking about during the performance and scalability seminar. This will be a slimmed down version of that. If you are interested in this topic, I suggest you check out the high-performance group on groups.drupal.org.

Topics that will be talked about are:

  • Advanced Cache module
  • Apache server tuning
  • APC opcode cache and module
  • Devel Module
  • Linux optimization
  • Memcache
  • MySQL query cache
  • MySQL query optimizing
  • NFS
  • XCache
Session Presenter: Steve Rude
Presenter Info
As a Lead Developer for Achieve Internet I have spent the past 18 months working with building high profile, scalable Drupal sites for Lifetime Television, Sony BMG, Lime.com, and Best Buy. My focus is on performance and scalability with a great deal of interest in caching technology. I am the maintainer of 2 Cache API modules APC and XCache and a co-maintainer for memcache. I also co-maintain the Asset Manager module (am). I have been working in Web Development for 11+ years since I started my first Web Development company at age 16. I have worn many hats during the dot-com boom working in the Bay Area from 1998 to 2002 as a Network Engineer, System Administrator and Developer. I now reside in San Diego, CA and work primarily with Drupal, but I am also interested in Rails, Perl and Performance tuning.
