Drupal for Facebook

Session Description

The Drupal for Facebook project aims to make Drupal the premier environment for developing Facebook Applications.

In this talk, I’ll briefly introduce what a Facebook Application is, and demonstrate how a simple app is created using Drupal for Facebook. I gave a similar presentation at DrupalCon Barcelona.

Drupal for Facebook is a new project but already provides quite a bit of functionality. Anyone considering developing a Facebook App should give it a trial run. We’re looking to build community and add more features.

Session Discussion:

Demo Plan

During this session, I plan to talk about what Drupal for Facebook is, what Facebook Applications are, and show a live demo. The demo app is available for preview. If you’re deciding whether or not to attend this session, I recommend you take a look and see if this is something that interests you.

Support for OpenSocial

One more discussion topic is how to support OpenSocial, ideally with the same module as Facebook. API is coming up soon, presumably will be posted here: http://code.google.com/apis/opensocial

There was lots of discussion of what it is and why this is important. A good backgrounder is put together by Marc Andressen here – http://blog.pmarca.com/2007/10/open-social-a-n.html

We should at least talk about this at BADCamp…

Drupal for Facebook Presentation at 2:15 Sunday, room 390

Barring any changes to the schedule, this presentation will be:

2:15pm – 3:15pm, Sunday Nov 4th, room 390.

I’m posting here because the full schedule is not yet published.

Seeking ideas for a Drupal for Facebook demo

Earlier this year I demonstrated Drupal for Facebook. In that demo, I built a very simple blog site in Drupal, and I showed how to expose the same content in Facebook. The result was a very simple Facebook application in which anyone who installed the app could post to their own blog. And the blog posts would appear on their facebook profile.
